What a whirl

What a whirl – it’s been all about Christmas door wreaths this week.

Inspired by the Adult Education classes she’s been attending at Ashford, Jan asked whether she could buy a couple of door wreath frames so that she could create something beautiful for her home and her daughter’s place, down on the south coast.  As a flower arranging newbie Jan was ready to get stuck in and feel her way in terms of the construction/design of her own door ring.  She sent me a picture of the finished product: good job Jan!

On Tuesday morning it was the last session of a short run of Christmas classes at Canterbury Adult Ed – and of course the star of the show is the door wreath. We set up a photo booth in the corner of the classroom – as you can see there were some fabulous creations …  I’ve only posted a few photos here, but there are more on my Facebook page – do check them out.  Which ones are your favourite?

I’ve also been lucky enough to teach at three sessions at Anna’s Country Flowers.  This is the fourth time this year Anna and I have collaborated on seasonally themed workshops which are hosted at Anna’s farm.  It was lovely to catch up with old (and new) friends and celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with them.

It’s lovely to see how each of ladies coming to class adapts the techniques demonstrated and comes up with their unique take on door wreath-ery.  Based on a sample survey of the 25 or so wreaths I’ve seen being created this week it seems that the natural look is in and ribbons/bows are no longer in favour.

I’m looking forward to teaching more Christmas classes over the next week or so.  I’ll be at Belmont House on Wednesday 16 December.  If you’d like to join me in making your own table arrangement this year in the Orangery at Belmont all you need to do is ring 01795 890228 today to book your place.

Don’t forget, whether you’ve been to class or not I’d love to see you door deco creations this year.  Post them online with the hashtag #winterdoor and I’ll come and take a look.  You can read more about the winter door project here.
