I’ve been getting to know Sarah online over the last few months. She’s been working her way through my 4-week online flower arranging course and recently wrote a lovely review on her #FlowerStart experience over on MyTunbridgeWells.com – do check it out.
I thought it would be fun to meet the person behind the flowers and Sarah has kindly agreed to share an insight into her life as a Busy Mum and business women – over to you Sarah.
Hello - I’m Sarah, or ‘Mum-meeeeeee’ to my two daughters, Edith (two and a half years) and Beatrice (eight months). I live in Tunbridge Wells with my husband and daughters. Before children I worked in marketing, commuting up to London each day. After children, I decided that wasn’t for me, so I’ve set up my own business.
I’m hoping to be able to spend time with my girls and be there for those all-important moments as they grow up - and to keep my own identity/career/sanity as well!
I set up smew consulting in October 2016 – a marketing consultancy aimed at helping small, local businesses to access big brand thinking. I support on anything from brand strategy for startups to day to day planning and delivery of social media.
Creative at heart
I’m creative at heart. I studied design management and the creative industries at university. I always enjoy making things with my eldest daughter. When I was offered the chance (by Clare from My Tunbridge Wells) to take Julie’s FlowerStart course, I jumped at it.
It was ideal as I could fit the homework tasks in around the girls and my work. In a matter of weeks, I went from ripping off the cellophane, trimming stalks and shoving in vases to conditioning my flowers, thinking more about what container to use, what to add to the supermarket bunch from my own garden, and more.
I am a big fan of Instagram and Facebook so I also enjoyed the sense of community and sharing that came with the course being virtual. Julie was great at giving useful advice and feedback on the arrangements so I could make tweaks and improve them, then re-post an updated arrangement.
Now the FlowerStart course is over for me I no longer ‘cut and dump’ and I’ve even gifted some hand tied bouquets to friends. I hope I #flowercontinue.
Sarah has over 15 years' big brand marketing experience in financial services, travel, retail and technology. She set up her business to bring her experience to small and growing businesses who can't support a whole marketing function or need some extra support for their own team
